Serving the people of South Tyneside, in the North East of England, we were established as an NHS Trust in 1993 and have provided a comprehensive range of acute and community services to an extremely high standard. On 01/01/2005 South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust was authorised as one of the new NHS Foundation Trusts. We believe that the way an NHS Foundation Trust works will help us to improve the services we provide even further and to do so faster, and in keeping with what local people want.  Through our highly skilled and dedicated staff, we have always strived to meet our own very high standards and those expected by the NHS overall. We believe it is essential, while delivering high-quality services, to ensure that financial and efficiency targets are met. We are always striving to improve our services. In December 2008, South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust was designated as a VTE Exemplar Centre. This was confirmed in a visit from Dr Roopen Arya.
